The First-Ever Pizza
The modern pizza, as we know it, originated in Naples, Italy, back in the 1700’s when cash-strapped peasants topped flat focaccia bread with fresh tomatoes.
You Do the Math
Pizza has even inspired a mathematical equation: the pizza theorem, which states the equality of two areas when a round pizza-shaped disk is “sliced” or partitioned a certain way.
World’s Biggest Pizza
The biggest pizza in recorded history was baked in 2012 and had a circumference of 131 feet. A collaboration between five Italian chefs, this gargantuan pizza required 19,800 pounds of flour, 10,000 pounds of tomato sauce, 8,800 pounds of mozzarella cheese, 1,488 pounds of margarine, 551 pounds of rock salt, 220 pounds of lettuce and 55 pounds of vinegar, and weighed in at a whopping 51,257 pounds.
World’s Fastest-Eaten Pizza
A New Zealand man named Josh Anderson holds the world record as the world’s fastest pizza-eater after devouring a 12-inch pie in a mere one minute and 45 seconds.
